Questions for Bodies We Share
A Collaborative Exploration of Movement, Emotion, and Connection

This multidisciplinary experimental project invites audiences into a dynamic dialogue between drawing, dance, and poetry. Emerging from Hassan’s Journeying Through the Subconscious series, the work explores how we express internal emotional landscapes through physical movement and mark-making.

Developed in collaboration with dancer and movement director JJ Saword, the project unfolds through a performance, paced video poem and workshop. Anchored by Hassan’s poem Questions for Bodies We Share, the video culminates in a live drawing and dance duet, where Hassan responds to each poetic line with intuitive drawing, while JJ interprets these marks through improvisational dance. The result being a layered visual and physical language of intimacy, rhythm, and exchange through Hassan and Saword’s dual exploration of bodily memory, vulnerability and shared presence as tools for connection.

Presented as part of Sketch Corner at Tate Modern, this project offers an immersive reflection that can be used as reference or source material in movement research, collaborative practice, somatic exploration, or creative education - inviting artists, educators, and practitioners to consider new ways of translating emotion, connection, and embodiment into visual and physical form.
